We have been talking about DLD Day today in the Chestnut Class. DLD affects about 2 children in every classroom and can make talking and listening difficult. To help increase awareness in our school and local community, we are marking today as DLD day. We spoke about it during assembly this morning and then we went on a walk to visit our DLD board and bring our Chestnut Class balloon out to the front of the school. By 11:30am the front of our school will have lots of different purple and yellow balloons to mark the day! Some of us are also wearing purple and yellow clothing today to raise awareness!
Today we were talking about homes that animals live in. We looked at different pictures and how they make their homes. We then talked about hedgehogs and where they live. It's nearly time for them to go into hibernation so we decided to make our own hedgehogs. We went to the forest school and collected lots of leaves from the ground. We are going to use those to make hedgehog art tomorrow! We can wait to show you our finished art projects!
During Friday's Assembly we talked about Road Safety and how we can keep ourselves safe when crossing the road. We listened to the road safety song and then got our new hi-vis jackets on to put what we had learned into practice with a trip to the Forest School. We stayed in our lines and when we went to cross the road we counted three cars going past. We also used our listening ears and heard a motorbike in the distance. When is was safe to do so we successfully crossed the road. We stopped, looked left and right, listened for traffic and then walked straight across the road. Congratulations to Excellent who was our Student of the Week on Friday and to the Blue Table who won table of the week. We are looking forward to lots of fun this week. Stay tuned for more updates. Our new Aistear Theme is all about the home! We are learning about different rooms in our homes and the different things that we do in them! We are making homes using different shapes also!
This week we have been exploring more signs of autumn and focusing on the Hedgehog.
We read the story It was a Dark Cold Night by Tim Hopgood and discussed the different types of homes animals have. Next we got busy with our play dough making hedgehogs. We learned about how they have spikes on their skin to protect them and used small match sticks to make our own play dough hedgehogs spikey! During Aistear play we painted paper hedgehogs and used our scissor skills to give our hedgehogs spikes. We have also been enjoying voting for our favourite books this week. Feel free to bring in a favourite book from home to be a part of the voting. We had our second trip to the pop up library this week! We are really enjoying relaxing on the beanbags and reading together!
We were super lucky today to have a PETNS parent volunteer to do a Zoom yoga class with us today! Aisling guided us through some super fun yoga and we had a wonderful time! Thank you Aisling!
