Today marked the end of our social distancing in Junior Infants! This meant we can finally come together for activities. Today (and for the rest of this week) we are learning to come together in Ash and Chestnut and making lots of new friends! We are getting used to it this week so we are ready to start our Literacy Groups next week!

We had a very busy day today in Ash Class. We had a visit from Garda Darragh who announced the winners of our colouring competition. Congratulations to Jaxson, Angelina and Bryan. Garda Darragh also had medals for everyone in Ash Class.
Congratulations to Chloe who is Ash Class student of the week. Our teacher let us have the iPad to take photos during Aistear today while we were having fun. Check out our great photography skills below. d look A few weeks ago our ANA Chimgee started a project in Ash Class. We got some vegetables scraps that we were throwing away- spring onion, celery and garlic. We put them into water and ran an experiment to see if they would grow on our window in the classroom. To our surprise, they did. We looked at how they were growing each day. Before we broke up for mid-term we wanted to use our newly grown vegetables to make an omelette in the class. We helped Chimgee to make the omelette this morning and lots of people had a taste during snack time.
We then planted the celery and garlic along with the ends of the spring onion into big pots and put them in the Geo dome where they will continue to grow over the mid-term break. We really enjoyed our experiment and look forward to growing more vegetables over the next few months. If you try to grow any vegetables using this method at home please send in your photos for us to share with the class! Today Garda Daire came back to visit us and give out awards for the colouring competition! We had 3 winners of the competition (Chinmay, Mia and Sara) but everyone in the class got their own Garda badge!
Congratulations to our award winners today! The Yellow table won by 2 points this week and did an amazing job of working together all week!
The Chestnut Class have been playing as teachers this week as part of our People Who Help Us theme! We've some fantastic teachers practicing in our room and teaching lots about our sight words, sounds and numbers! We're also learning about primary colours and colour theory by making new colours and shades to create flames. At our small world area we are pretending to be firefighters putting out fires and driving fire engines!
Eoin had such a nice surprise today when the Chestnut Class gave him a card they had worked on with Aoife! They had all signed it with their handprints to say thanks for being their teacher. All the Chestnut Class have also made a Valentine's card for different members of their family to take home in their bag!
In Junior Infants we've been learning all about different people in the community who help us. We were lucky to have a visit from our local community garda Daire today. Daire spoke to us about how he helps the community, he answered our questions and he even gave us a chance to look at his garda car!
