This month in the Chestnut Class we are learning all about China! We read the story 'Lin Yi's Lantern' last week and today we made our own lanterns! We folded and cut the card ourselves, and then decorated them with crayons and glitter!
I've put together this short video to show some of what we got up to on Friday at Causey Farm. I hope all the children had a great day out at the farm! We are learning about the bus in class at the moment! Today we talked about all the different places we can travel to on the bus. We thought of: the zoo, cinema, shopping centre, friend's house, beach, park, farm and castle! Then we sat down and planned out our own town that we can use for our Aistear play next week. It was a whole class effort and we're super proud of it. We'll share the finished product with you next week!
Well done to our Green Table who got the most points this week! A big congratulations to our Handwriting Award winner also!
Today the Chestnut Class did a spirited performance of the classic tune 'The Wheels on the Bus'. We also got to show off our bus that we made during the week!
This month Ash Class will learn about Mongolia as part of Intercultural May. We have lots of activities planned including artwork, music, dance and stories. Today we had a presentation (see below) where we were introduced to the country. Our teachers told us some interesting facts like Ireland would fit into Mongolia 22 times! Later this month we hope to connect with a school in Mongolia via zoom. We are also hoping to learn a dance and some rhymes in Mongolian to perform. Today we also looked at the Mongolian flag; it's colours, shapes and the symbols on the flag and what they represent. We spent some time colouring in the flag for display in the classroom. We listened to rhymes and dances from Mongolia which we loved. Before home time our ANA Chimgee who is from Mongolia read us a Mongolian story about a bear who got lost in the shop. We talked about times when we have been lost and what to do if we do get lost. Information linked below for you to enjoy listening to and dancing at home. Stay tuned on our page for more exciting things to come this month. As part of our Autism Awareness Week in PETNS, today we dressed up to show off some of our interests in the Chestnut Class! We had everything from doctors and pilots, to superheroes and princesses! We had a great time talking about how we all enjoy different things and showing off our costumes!
This week is Autism Awareness Week in PETNS. Today we took part in a silent disco! We were able to chose between 2 different types of music and chose the volume that we felt most comfortable with! Some of us danced with others, some danced on our own and some of us just chilled out and enjoyed the music! It was great fun for everyone!
Parents, do you have a child starting school next year? The libraries of Ireland have put together a selection of books to help children with their transition to 'Big School' next September. As part of the initiative, a ‘My Little Library Book Bag’ is available free for every child starting school in 2022 to help them to prepare for this big step. Children and their parents or guardians can collect the bags at any library throughout the country.
Each My Little Library Book Bag contains:
Libraries can’t wait to welcome all the 4 and 5 year old children in to collect their book bags and begin their library membership journey. We hope that once they visit the library to pick up their book bag, our new library members and their families will come back regularly to keep their bag filled up with borrowed books and to take part in storytimes, classes and all the other events we have to offer at the library. More supports to help the transition to primary school are available on the Let’s Get Ready page on https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/1e8a3-lets-get-ready/ |
